questions questions questions!!!

Ok...not much to really report in pregnancy land - I'm still not really showing, although my hubby thinks I am (and I remind him that I am chubby and he's still looking at my gut, not a baby belly). I feel good and I am slowly getting used to 50 people a day asking me how I'm feeling...."oh yeah, i feel great". When I really want to say "remember when you asked me that yesterday?" I guess people feel like they need to acknowledge it or something and that's the most creative thing they can think of? Or maybe they really want to know! I dunno. As you can tell maybe, I have a case of the grumps today...and yesterday too. If PMS was possible these days, I would be having it - but I think I'm just super tired. I need to go to bed way earlier every night, and I haven't been and it's really catching up with me. I need to go to bed at 10:30 - not midnight or later!

PS> I'm 15 weeks, 5 days!

catching up!

Ok... I have a lot of catching up to do - whoops! After our return from Wildwood, my husband got a little mad that I hadn't told people at work yet. So...I hinted at it on facebook, and got some queries. Then a coworker im'd me about it and I spilled the beans to him, and word magically spread! A handful of people heard right away, and more throughout the week. I still think there are people that don't know and it will be fun to get their delayed reactions. At this point, the majority of our families and friends are aware of our bun in the oven. I feel good that people know and are curious about it all. Many questions from people about trying, the sex, where we're going to live etc. I am learning to become patient and deal with these repeat questions with a friendly smile on my face! Oh. The day after we got back, we had another doctor's appointment. This one was SO boring. We didn't get to see anything - but we DID hear the heartbeat - which was cool! I think I heard it last time, but it's always nice to have reconfirmation that things are still good! Our next appointment is at 18 weeks, and my next task is to make an appointment for the 20 week anatomy scan, which is some sort of detailed thing where they count fingers and toes and make sure all the organs are there. This happens at our delivery hospital, St.Luke's Roosevelt, so I am looking forward to scoping it all out!

Wednesday 23 July 2008

Hi! I'm back from a few days on The Jersey Shore - wildwood to be exact (see photos of past years here - there's some amazing old architecture and a style of motel called Doo Wop which is sadly vanishing). Anyway - the big highlight of the trip was the fact that our first night there, we went to dinner with my husband's family (they go to Wildwood every year - big tradition), and during dinner, we told them our exciting baby news! My mother-in-law and aunt-in-law both got teary and my sister in-law and her husband were super psyched! It was fun to tell them and it felt like the start of an avalanche of telling people! I've since told many friends, and hinted about it on facebook, and I let the beans spill at work, so now most people know there and if they don't, they will soon. I was being weird about it I think. I kind of dreaded the thought of all the initial attention and questions, but it's been fine actually. Most people seem genuinely excited for me, which is nice. I catch them looking at my stomach to try to see if I'm showing, and they try to do it discreetly, but I see them! I hope I show soon so they will have something more interesting to look at rather than my chubby gut!

PS> I'm 14 weeks!
PPS> I made my first maternity purchase the other day - a bella band!

vacation + CVS success

THE CSV RESULTS ARE IN! EVERYTHING IS NORMAL! YAY!!!!!

I'm going on a little vacation as of tomorrow afternoon, and during this vacation, we will see my husband's mom, aunt, sister, brother-in-law and nephew. We plan on making a grand announcement Thursday night at dinner! Should be interesting. Will there be tears? Will there be any "I knew it" comments? I can't wait to tell them, and I really can't wait to lay on the beach and relax....with a lot of SPF of course.

telling people

I find the process of telling people that I am pregnant very strange. I guess it's because pregnancy is your very special secret for SOOOO long, and then it suddenly becomes kosher to tell people. I'm the person that quit playing softball because I didn't like everyone looking at me when I was at bat, so imagine how I must feel when I tell someone new, and all of a sudden their eyes are drawn to my stomach - which is just chubby with chub - i'm not showing yet- and all eyes are on me! It's awkward. I assume I'll get more used to it, it's just a weird time. As soon as I get the final call re: CVS test we will be more open to telling people, and we've actually told a handful more people this past week, but still...it's weird.

PS> I'm constipated.
PPS> I'm 13 weeks!

gross

The second I walked in the door tonight I was plagued with horrible cramps....but I know these cramps. These cramps are my body telling me it wants to poop (sorry...) I have suffered from some serious constipation the last few days for which I can only blame myself. I know I haven't been drinking enough water at work, and I need to smarten up. Anyway - tonight I had the pleasure of these cramps, then vomiting, followed finally by well, let's just say "the other end". I don't know if I ate something, or if this is some form of pregnancy illness, but I'm going to self-diagnose myself with 1) constipation and 2)food poisoning....for which I also blame myself for. I went to an outdoor event, and ate potato salad that was in the VIP area. It looked fresh, it tasted fresh, but I think maybe it was a bad idea. Anyway - I'm sure I'll have more sunshine and rainbows to talk about soon!

PS> I discovered some cool websites which I have added as new links.Ohdeeoh, Modern Seed, Babywit and Babble

Shingles!

My husband has been diagnosed with shingles! Argh! I had chickenpox when I was a kid, and they are in the same family, so I should be fine, but my Obgyn suggested I call my gp and come in to get some blood taken so they can see if I'm immune. Ugh. I guess I'll go on Friday or something just to be sure. Get better honey!

CVS update!

I got a call and the initial results are normal! YAY! I can expect final definitive results on Monday or Tuesday.

CVS - done!

I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow! What a milestone - YAY!

OK...so yesterday was the big CVS test. I managed to get an appointment with one Dr. Wapner. My genetic counselor said he was the "guru" of CVS tests and she doubted I would even be able to get an appointment with him, but get an appointment I did.

So yesterday my hubby and I headed to Columbia Presbyterian East-side and arrived at their fancy offices. I filled out miles of paperwork again....oh, and an aside - why on earth isn't there a national healthcare database so I don't have to keep filling out all this junk! SO annoying. Anyway - the people there were all SO nice. I finished the paperwork and then a genetic counselor saw us, yes - again, but that is their protocol. It was good though, because my husband had been unable to come to the previous session I had with a counselor. That was fine, but she made me a little nervous by disagreeing with my doctor and the previous counselor about the jewish screenings. She thought I should be tested for the whole panel, which would mean they would take 4 tubes of blood, and we didn't want to do the CVS and take more blood on the same day since we know what happens to me when my blood is taken. Anyway - I think I'm going to call my doc on Monday to discuss having more blood taken and if it's necessary.

After the session, we were brought to a room and I was given 2 gowns to put on. Then a super nice lady came to bring us to the procedure room where she did an ultrasound on me. This was our first one, so it was super exciting, especially since hubby didn't get to see the baby squirming around last time. She was doing the ultrasound to determine a bunch of stuff I guess, but most importantly if they were going to do the test vaginally or through my stomach. Since my placenta is attached from the front, they determined I would have the needle through the stomach. I was actually hoping for that since it seemed less invasive than the catheter through the vag and then a needle through the catheter. That seems like trouble.

The doctor came in we got started. First, tons of bactine on my stomach. I mean a lot. Then he stuck the needle in, with the ultrasound guiding the whole thing. It went by quickly. I felt a pinch - well, a continual pinch and then some strangeness in my back/rectal area which they said would happen due to some nerve thing. I was squeezing my hubby's hand HARD the whole time, and it took about a minute and it was done. Then I got a shot of Rogam, which was apparently necessary since my blood type is RH- and that shot will ensure that if my baby's blood type is a positive one, that my blood won't fight it if things get at all mixed up during the test. I then got dressed, wiped the bactine off and went home! I rested the rest of the day and napped and my husband took care of me. They recommend resting for about 48 hours. No aeorobic activity, baths, sex, etc. I am well rested, and feeling 100%. No problems, spotting etc. I look forward to Tuesday when we will hopefully get our initial news...and ideally it will be good. We will have full results in about 2 weeks.
